The idea behind media4charity arose while sitting on a very noisy bus between Dhakar in Bangladesh and Calcutta in India.
At that point I had worked on one film for The Railway Children charity. The film proved a great success and aided in their campaign for raising funds for the specific project. I then put myself forward to make another film promoting their educational program.
It loomed on me that this is what charities want and quite often the very thing they cannot afford or justify the expenditure on.
Film brings awareness to a cause. Increasing this awareness aids the charity in their funding campaigns. This funding then helps those that most need it through the charity’s initiatives.
As I travelled across the Sub Continent I came across more NGOs (Non Government Organisations) that I felt I would like to represent: A charity that brings sick children to hospital and to whom without the help would probably die; a charity that helps the disabled in an area where they are treated with less status than dogs; the largest refugee camp in the world that nobody ever hears about. I could see a long list growing.
I felt that there is so much in the world that I wanted to bring awareness to, so many people I wanted to help, but how?
I do not have access to much money, but what I do have is passion and belief. If I wanted to help change the world and make it a better place well I just had to get off my backside and do just that.
So what is vision for media4charity? Film-making, writing and photography is what I do, so that is where I will start. Ultimately though I want to bring like-minded creatives in touch with charities, to bring time and specialist skills together with those that most need it to promote their cause. I want media4charity to work with charities that have the ambition to provide sustainable solutions for those they represent and believe in change.
